SSU History
Saratov State University was founded in 1909 by the
decree of the Emperor Nicolay II. Today SSU is one
of the leading institutions for science and
education. It is the acknowledged University in the
country and a multiple
winner of Russian,
international competitions
and grants.
Education
SSU has developed a unique
profile with a special
combination of 30 faculties, 6
educational institutes, 2
colleges. This structure
provides training curriculum for
more than 150 specialties in
the fields of secondary,
undergraduate and
postgraduate education.
Students from 22 countries
At SSU there are 27 700
students , including
international students hailing
from 22 countries : the USA,
France, Turkey, Iran, Iraq and
the New Independent States
of the Former Soviet Union
are among them.
SSU has successfully integrated into
the global scientific community
• the University has switched over to the level education
• a unique language course “The Russian Language for
Foreigners” has been developed
• the system of distance learning is being improved
• the University administers numerous partnerships with
the leading universities worldwide
• teaching Russian as a foreign language is provided at
the Preparatory Department for foreign students
• students are currently can benefit from 88 master’s and
postgraduate’s programs

Achievements
SSU is widely known for its scientific achievements. The
inventions of the University scientists traditionally win
prizes at international exhibitions and fairs. For several
years now SSU programming team ranks among the best
in the world.
In 2006 SSU team
obtained the title of
All Round World Champion
in Programming.
