Community Pharmacy Services Patient Questionnaire 2010

Peter Marks Director of Public Health Leading Leicestershire and Rutland to become the healthiest place in the UK

What Is the

Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment

(PNA)

By law, all primary care trusts in England must publish a

Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment

(PNA) by the 1 February 2011 which must: • Highlight whether there are gaps in the services provided by pharmacists • Show pharmacists and dispensing doctors which services are required, where and by whom • Help NHS LCR with their commissioning of high quality services Leading Leicestershire and Rutland to become the healthiest place in the UK

Why I am being asked to complete this questionnaire?

• In order to produce a meaningful

Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment

(PNA) we need your views • We want to understand what you think about current services offered by pharmacists and dispensing doctors and how services should be shaped for the future • This will help us to develop the PNA Leading Leicestershire and Rutland to become the healthiest place in the UK

We want to know:

• Who uses pharmacists and dispensing doctors • Which services offered by pharmacies are used most? • Whether or not you think pharmacies and dispensing doctors are convenient for you • Whether you would like more services from your local pharmacy Leading Leicestershire and Rutland to become the healthiest place in the UK

We want to know this because:

• We want to make sure that pharmacies provide services people need and use • We want to know what we can improve in Leicestershire County and Rutland • We want to tell pharmacists and dispensing doctors what you think of them • We want to work with patients and pharmacists and dispensing doctors to improve services Leading Leicestershire and Rutland to become the healthiest place in the UK

What will the PNA be used for?

• In the future PNAs will be used to determine whether applications to provide new services by pharmacists and dispensing doctors will be approved • For example opening a new pharmacy in the locality, or moving to new premises • The PNA will help NHS LCR to ensure there is sufficient access to services a pharmacy provides to meet the health needs of the population and will inform NHS LCR’s overall strategic plan Leading Leicestershire and Rutland to become the healthiest place in the UK

What’s next?

• Questionnaires are now available or you can find them online at www.lcr.nhs.uk

• Following the results of the questionnaire there will be a consultation starting on the 1 September 2010
