A system of government in which people govern
themselves. Direct democracy is practical for countries
with small populations, so that they make their own
decisions.

decides to have a group of people represent
them.

behalf of the people.

is limited in which the
power of the hereditary ruler is

constitution and laws.

Democracy works on the
principle of majority rule.
This means that when 2
candidates from different
political parties participate
in a free and fair election, the
candidate that receives more
than half the votes wins the
election. This being said,
majority rule favors the most
citizens and everyone keeps
their basic rights as equal
members of society.
