Who was Beowulf?
Beowulf was a brave warrior who sought out to fight for
all the people who couldn’t fight for themselves.
Why is Beowulf famous?
Beowulf is a very praised warrior from the Land of the
Geats. He is the strongest and most noble of all the
Geat warriors. Geats were from Sweden and Herot is in
Denmark.
Why did Grendel originally go to Herot?
Grendel heard all the celebrations that were going on,
praising the Almighty and he wanted to see what was
going on. He cannot feel the love of God and is an
offspring from Cain.
What is Herot?
Herot is the mead-hall in the excerpt we read from
Beowulf. It is the place that Grendel attacks and forces
people to flee for their lives.
What did the people of Herot realize about Grendel’s
killing streaks?
Grendel would only come out at night so those who
stayed near him would be killed during their sleep. He
killed 30 men in their sleep on the first night that he
attacked.
What did Hrothgar decide to do to keep his people from
being killed?
Hrothgar didn’t do anything. He didn’t know how to
protect his people from this vicious monster. Hrothgar
could not be killed because the throne was protected
by God. Grendel’s killing streak went on for 12 years.
Where was Beowulf from and why did he come to kill
Grendel?
Beowulf is from the place of the Geats and comes to fight
Grendel because he knows that if he doesn’t stop
Grendel no one will and Herot will be doomed. He
goes to kill Grendel for the glory.
How does Beowulf plan to attack Grendel?
He sets all his men up near the throne of Hrothgar at
night trying to catch Grendel off guard. Could not
attack Grendel with his sword because metal does not
effect him.
Where did Grendel go after Beowulf had hurt him?
Grendel went back to his cave where he would stay till
his death. Beowulf ripped off Grendel’s arm up to his
shoulder and he then bleeds to death.
Beowulf is not an English hero. He is Danish. He is not a
Christian hero. He is a pagan hero. The Scop was the
name of the person who would sing the poem. He was
accompanied by Glee men who would sing along with
him. Only 1 copy of the original Beowulf poem is left
today.
