The Way Forward
Purpose of FOSA
A PTA is a very good way to bring together parents, teachers and others to
raise money, to support the school and make a difference for the children. It
provides an opportunity for everyone to work together towards a common
goal and is open to all parents and teachers even if they only have a small
amount of time available to get involved.
Our PTA’s remit is to fundraise for the benefit of ALL the pupils at the school.
Working in partnership with the school, a PTA can help to develop strong links
between home and school.
A registered Charity which needs to have be governed responsibly and adhere
to certain processes and procedures to retain this status.
As it stands….

Sale, Easter Draw/Balloon Race, Pamper Night, Summer Fun Day, KS2 Quiz,
Oakhill Quiz, Christmas Bazaar, FOSA Book sale, 2nd Hand uniform sales.
Support other school activities such as International Week, supplying gift
boxes for Santa visit, coffee mornings, support class cake sales.
Currently raise c.£10K per year.
Fund: High-vis jackets for school trips, subsidise theatre trip, Wizard
workshops, books, equipment (including ICT), Playground improvements.
Situation from April
Roles becoming available: Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Secretary.
Must have these to ensure charitable status.
7 experienced members leaving, unsure as to rest at this stage.
Getting harder to gain support and help for events. Falling on a small number
of people and is not sustainable long-term.
Climate has changed – more people work or have other commitments so we
need to evolve to survive – try a new approach.
New Approach
Smaller Committee
Project Based
Key roles and max 15 people
Sub-Committee / Project team
Liaise with school / funding etc.
Administrative and strategic, lead
support and guide. At least 1
member of committee should be
on each sub-group.
Each event needs 2 leads to
organise and then a number of
people from wider community to
take on jobs.
Events will only run if sufficient
volunteers come forward.
Decide on events to be held :
possibly less events, mix of
community & fundraising.
