Design a Robot to locate and disarm a
bomb
2 person independent design project
10 week design period
Detailed project plan
Working model
Problem Statement
Your company has been asked by
the FBI to create a bid for a robot that
can disarm a bomb. You are to: design a
robot, create 2-D drawings of the full
scale robot, create a cost estimate, write
a design proposal including any special
features of your robot, create a working
model of your robot, test your model on
the obstacle course.
Robot Design Specifications
Robot should be designed to fit in
normal building areas
Hallways
 Doorways 28”
 Max height 6’
 Max weight 600 pounds

Robot should include Audio and visual
feedback
Robot should have the ability to be
remote controlled
Model Design
Model is to be made out of Lego parts
provided
Model should resemble your paper design
Model must be able to navigate the obstacle
course provided and disarm the bomb
The working model does NOT have to
include video or audio feedback
Drawing Requirements
Fully dimensioned views of the design
- front view
- back view
- most detailed side of the robot
All drawings must have a Title Block
Material Regulations
Each team will get a RoboLab robotics
invention kit which must be returned by the
end of the semester
Team will be ask to sign a contract before
receiving the kit
Important pieced will be accounted for i.e
RCX, sensors, motors, etc.
Grades will be withheld if contract agreement
is not met

Pricing
Student is responsible to develop their
own pricing guide
 Research similar robot designs and
robotics companies for price
estimates
No maximum price limit (keep in mind
Minimal design)
MS Project
MS PROJECT
 DETAILED
 Indicate who is doing which activity
 TOTAL FLOAT
 MILESTONE (8th week)
 Absolutely no PAINTBRUSH (team will be
penalize at TA’s discretion)
 If behind schedule, team must explain the reason
for the delay and solutions to get back on track
Design Presentations
Bidding process will require four
presentations:




Presentation 1 - Rough sketches, project plan,
and initial design proposal
Presentation 2 - Two-dimensional drawings
Presentation 3 - Physical Model
Presentation 4 - Full product presentation
including project plan, drawings, physical model,
demonstration of model, cost analysis, and design
proposal.
Final Submissions
Report
 A written proposal - (3 pages, doublespaced)
 design
specifications
 Design of the Robot and why it was
chosen
 cost-efficiency of Robot
 reasons for any unusual features
 changes in original design and why
Final Submissions
Report

Fully dimensioned, scaled plans.
