• Lane Desborough was working on an idea to access his child ’s CGM data while John Costik was working on a way to remotely view the data for his T1 child.

• The two joined forces in May 2013. They organized a group of volunteer programmers to develop the ability to view CGM info while the child is not with parents. • Parents now have the ability to see and make decisions about the information

on their child ’s CGM no matter where the child is.

ABOUT NIGHTSCOUT

• Nightscout is available to all T1s who need or want another pair of eyes to monitor glucose levels reported from their Dexcom G4 CGM.

• Nightscout technology does not hack into existing systems. It is the same procedure used to download data to Dexcom Studio®. Instead of loading data to Dex Studio the data is loaded to the cloud for real time analysis. • Dexcom was selected because of the ease in obtaining and translating data to the cloud. #WeAreNotWaiting

HOW DOES NIGHTSCOUT WORK?

• T1 carries Dexcom receiver as usual, while tethered to an Android phone via a short cable. • The phone transmits the CGM data to an online database and website (covered in detail in the install guide).

• Nightscout allows parents and loved ones to view glucose level with dynamic trend line on website or with current glucose value (Pebble).

• T1 children and adults wear Pebble for alerts due to convenience of watch-like device.

WHAT DOES NIGHTSCOUT DO?

• Fixed alarms at approximately 80 and 180. The alarm is a distinct musical tone or vibration (on Pebble) with option to “snooze.” • Child cannot disable alarm on a device used by someone else who is monitoring the information.

• Almost all internet-enabled devices can view the graph: iPhones, iPads, tablets, Kindles, Notebook, PCs, Macs, etc.

• The Nightscout system is build-it-yourself and is not a commercial product

• Nightscout is working with FDA in order to eventually seek approval. Several of the programmers met with FDA in early October to begin process.

• No personal identifying information (health or otherwise) is contained on the website or in the database – security is not required. • Working to incorporate security into future release as proactive measure.
