ELIGIBILITY
• Students from grades 9 to 12.
• High quality projects.
• Experimentation and design projects only.
• Must be able to travel to USA (in May) with
valid passport.
Intel ISEF Rules
Please read the International Rules & Guidelines and to determine the type of project the students(s) is
(are) working on. Then establish which FORMS are required to fill out, dated and signed.
ALL IISEF projects are required to fill out the following FORMS:
• Checklist for Adult Sponsor
• Student Checklist (1A) and Research Plan
• Approval Form (1B)
• Official Abstract Form
In addition, because of the nature of the project, the
following may also be required (as an example):
• Regulated Research Institutional/Industrial Setting Form
(1C)
• Qualified Scientist Form (2)
• Potentially Hazardous Biological Agents Form (6A)
All forms can be downloaded from
http://www.societyforscience.org/document.doc?id=401

GET INVOLVED!
The IISEF is a great experience for participants to
meet other international students and present
their projects in the “Science Fair Olympiad”.
They will be judged by high profile Scientists and
Nobel Laureates.
…..and can win lots of awards!
Approval before experimentation
• Certain projects that are done in research labs and other institutions
require the approval of a supervising scientist before the experimentation
starts. This “approval before experimentation” information must be sent
to SRC by the deadlines indicated below along with the appropriate forms
that must be filled out.
• December 14, 2012 is the first deadline for submitting IISEF proposals to
SRC for projects that require approval before experimentation begins. We
strongly ask that schools encourage their students to send in their IISEFlevel project paperwork** by the Dec. 14 deadline.
• February 24, 2013 is the second and final deadline for submitting IISEF
paperwork** to SRC for projects that require approval before
experimentation begins. This may be needed in case the scientist is away
or the project starts in 2013. This date is also very close to the local fair
dates when teachers may have a better idea of IISEF caliber projects.
** drafts of the ABSTRACT and RESEARCH PLAN (with experimental details
and procedures) and required FORMS.
Risk Assessment Form
• If a project is done at home or at school, a supervising adult
(teacher) must assess the risks involved.
• To help with this procedure, a Risk Assessment Form is provided.
Concern for the students’ safety is the priority.
• If a teacher recognizes an IISEF level project then, based on the risk
assessment form, have the student(s) fill out the appropriate IISEF
FORMS in case that project is chosen for IISEF at the MRSTF.
• It may be best if ALL projects filled out this form to cover all
possible scenarios so that we do not miss out on those “really good
projects” that become eligible at the MRSTF but can’t go because
necessary forms have not been filled out.
Final SRC Approval needed for IISEF
• SRC has the obligation to sign off on all projects
that win at the MRSTF to go on to the IISEF.
• This means that ALL required FORMS must have
been completed according to the International
IISEF Rules and Guidelines.
