Common Apparatus
Engine Company
•
The engine company is the apparatus that carries hose
and water to the fire or emergency.
• You can identify the engine by the pump panel on the side
and the hose hanging over the pump panel.
Purpose of the Engine Company
The main purpose of the engine company
is to provide water to a fire
 Responds to medical calls, any type of
fire, downed power lines, investigations,
and much more
 The engine company is a universal
emergency response vehicle; it is sent to
almost all emergencies reported to the fire
department


Truck Company
• The truck company carries ladders, tools, and overhaul/salvage
equipment
• You can identify the truck by the large ladder on top of the apparatus
and it is one of the longest apparatus the department has
Purpose of the Truck Company
Responds to structure fires, cats in the
tree… anything that requires access to an
elevated location
 Provides salvage and ventilation, access to
any inaccessible location, search and
rescue, and a variety of other jobs as
assigned by the Officer In Charge (OIC)
 Extrication of Motor Vehicle Accident
(MVA) victims using the Hurst or Halmatro
tool (Jaws of Life)

