University Core Curriculum
Students enrolled prior to Fall 2014
Communications (6 hrs): ENGL104 plus elective (ENGL203, 241,
301, 235, 236, COMM203, 205 or 243)
Mathematics (8 hrs): MATH147 & MATH148 (or MATH151/152,
MATH171/172)
Natural Sciences (8 hrs): You’ve got it covered!
Humanities (3 hours): Ex: ANTH205, 301, GEOG202, 301, 305,
Literatures, Certain Philosophy & Certain History courses, etc.
Visual & Performing Arts (3 hrs): Examples THAR101, ENDS101,
ARCH 250, ARTS149, 150, etc.
Social Sciences (3 hrs): PSYC107, SOCI205, ECON202, 203, etc.
Core Curriculum Con’t
International & Cultural Diversity (6hrs): Can be used to meet
other areas (ex: Humanities, Social Science)
Examples: ARTS150, ARCH250, ANTH205, ANTH210,
GEOG202, 301, 305, THAR281, HLTH236.
US History (6 hrs): HIST105 & 106 or any HIST course with US
or American in the title offered at A&M. Three hours may be
Texas History (Ex: HIST226).
Political Science (6 hrs): MUST be POLS206 & 207, no options.
Kinesiology (2 hrs): KINE198 (1 hr) and KINE199 (1 hr).
KINE199 must be taken S/U. If you transfer in two KINE199
then you are done.
Writing Intensive Courses: (IN major) BIOL351, 388, 400, 401,
423, 455, 495, and OCNG420.
Foreign Language
Foreign Language requirement can be satisfied by:
1) Completing 2 years of the same language
in high school.
2) Demonstrating proficiency by examination
3) Completing two semesters of course work
in the same foreign language
RESIDENCY
VERY IMPORTANT
A minimum of 36 semester hours of 300and/or 400-level course work must be
successfully completed in residence at
Texas A&M to obtain a baccalaureate
degree. A minimum of 12 of these 36
semester hours must be in the
major field of study.
Choice of Electives
Not allowed as electives:
Courses below the minimum level
required in other areas of the degree
program (BIOL 107, MATH 102, 103)
Introductory courses to another field
of study (BIMS 101, AGLS 101).
Any ROTC course.
Only one additional KINE199
Department Grading Requirement
Students in the Department of Biology:
MUST EARN a grade of “C” or better
in BIOL 111 and 112.
TRANSFER STUDENTS must complete
BIOL213 & BIOL214, CHEM227/237,
CHEM228/238 & MATH147/148 within
two semesters at TAMU.
ONLY ONE “D” is allowed in courses
in the major field of study as long as
2.0+ is maintained in both the field of
study and overall.

End of Meeting Announcements
THE REGISTRATION PROCESS:
1) UNTIL 12:30PM: Ask any questions concerning your
registration and/or degree plan.
2) REPORT to Second Floor of the Student Computing Center
(SCC) by 1:45PM to prepare for class registration. Registration
begins promptly at 2:00PM, so BE EARLY. While you wait for
registration to open, you can organize your class options and
accept the Lab Safety Acknowledgement.
3) Please be sure to verify your class selections with an advisor
once your registration is complete. Pay fees (if needed) and
have a student ID card made (if not already done). You may also
go to a bookstore and purchase or reserve textbooks.
