Can You Spot the IUID?
Each one is a data matrix, but only one is an IUID
An IUID is always a data matrix
A data matrix is not always an IUID

IUID Data Constraints
 Must be encoded into an ECC200 Data Matrix 2-D barcode
 Must include ISO 15434 syntax
 Must include appropriate semantics
 Concatenated Unique Item Identifier (UII) no more than 50
characters
 Characters A through Z and 0 through 9. Also / and –
 No lower case letters, periods, asterisks, spaces (except when
using TEI format), or other special characters.
 UII must be globally unique
 The UII, once assigned is permanent.

Which Construct?
 Construct #1
 Enterprise Identifier (CAGE, DODAAC, DUNS, etc)
 Serial Number unique within the enterprise
* Construct #1 is usually recommended for legacy equipment
 Construct #2
 Enterprise Identifier
 Original part, lot or batch number
 Serial number unique within that part, lot or batch number
Either construct is acceptable. Suppliers are
permitted to use whichever they prefer.
