DEVELOPING YOUR IGP (Individualized Graduation Plan)

Why Develop an IGP?

 The IGP captures decisions about the direction in which the student wishes to go in high school and postsecondary education  Specifies cluster, major, postsecondary goals, planned high school schedule, planned out-of class career activities  Reviewed annually throughout high school by students, parents, and guidance counselors  Puts students and parents in control of education and career decision-making

Format of IGP Development

 8th Grade - Select a broad school of study for 9th Grade  9th Grade - Revise school of study if needed and select a cluster of study and/or a major for 10th through 12th Grade  10th Grade – Select a major  11th thru 12 th needed - Make adjustments to IGP as

Change and Flexibility

 Remember that IGP’s are tentative plans.

 Young people change ideas and direction.

 Classes will not always fit in students’ schedules, or may not be offered due to lack of enrollment.

 Changes can be made!

 Keep the District Course Catalog handy; teachers can use this in advisement with students and to help students connect the relevance between academic coursework and their career majors
