Translation did not impact inspiration:
Original spoken words of Jesus were Aramaic
Original inspired written words were in Greek
HOWEVER:
Subsequent translators were not inspired
Therefore, translation errors did occur

During the Middle Ages in Europe:
Bible translation was discouraged (banned after 1199)
Some translations were always being made
It would be incorrect to say no one had a Bible
In other parts of the world:

John Wycliffe
1370s began to claim Scripture trumped the Pope
Began translating the Bible into English
Followers nicknamed Lollards (“mumblers”)
1382 – The Wycliffe Bible (handwritten copies)

Priests are to be appointed in every church
Christians met on the days of Jewish holidays
Man is saved by faith alone
These are all deadly false doctrines
Going Down the Translation Trail
We can pre-determine the accuracy of a translation:
Does it follow a verbatim or a paraphrase mandate?
Is it a denominational translation?
Does it contain a particularly themed commentary?
What manuscripts does it use for the “original”?

The more ACCURATE the translation the better
As long as it maintains some readability
Example: Greek Interlinear bibles are most accurate

Our Confidence in English Translations
We have many safe translations/ versions of the Bible
We have many dangerous versions as well
We can accurately determine what is safe & true
We can even use “unsafe” if we use them cautiously
Trusting the New Testament
And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which
you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark
place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises
in your hearts;
