KINDERGARTEN Kids from the age of 3 to 6 Educational games and learning rhythm, art, gymnastics and foreign languages Kindergarten is paid by parents. Kindergarten Age SO-CALLED ZERO CLASS Class zero prepares children for the 6-year primary school PRIMARY SCHOOL • lasts 6 years • has 2 levels: – the first level – classes 1 – 3 – the first level – classes 4 – 6 Schoolbags are considered too heavy!!! Primary school Kindergarten Age THE FIRST LEVEL • One class teacher • Basic knowledge • English, PE, Art, Music, Religion • Points instead of grades At the end of the school year, children get reports with a descriptive assessment which informs parents about their children’s results and achievements. THE SECOND LEVEL lessons are led by different teachers 25 students in one class English is taught in 2 groups grades from 1 to 6 6 is the best grade. THE FIRST EXAMINATION What? 40 points? How is it possible? Primary school ends in an exam. MIDDLE SCHOOL • students aged 13 to 16 • expand the knowledge from the primary school • Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Geography instead of Nature Primary school Middle school students learn 2 foreign languages Kindergarten Middle school Age COMPETENCY TEST Points from this examination and grades from chosen subjects determine the choice of the secondary school. What should I choose? • vocational school • technical vocational school Middle school • comprehensive secondary school Primary school Complementary secondary school Complementary technical school Vocational school Age Technical vocational Kindergarten school Comprehensive secondary school Vocational secondary school THE VOCATIONAL SCHOOL • 2 or 3 years • students learn professions • students have regular apprenticeships After this school, I can continue learning in the technical vocational school or in the complementary secondary school. THE TECHNICAL VOCATIONAL SCHOOL • lasts 4 years • offers general knowledge and simultaneously prepares students for future professions • ends in an examination Those students who are willing to, may take the final “matura” exams - the baccalaureate and then study at university. SECONDARYSCHOOL CALLED LYCEUM • lasts 3 years • students can choose different curricula • foreign languages, Physics, Chemistry and Biology are taught in two smaller groups • students learn two foreign languages SWOTTING? In secondary school I need to learn a lot and regularly. TEACHERS ARE DIFFERENT “Matura” examination - the baccalaureate Compulsory exams in: Polish, Mathematics and one foreign language. The baccalaureate - 100% points Points determine what and where you can study Tomek • Too few points for the faculty of medicine but enough points for the faculty of physiotherapy Now he studies physiotherapy. Next year he wants to improve results in the baccalaureate in Biology and try again to get to the faculty of medicine. GOSIA: • A lot of points in the final exams, two different faculties at two different universities She tries to study psychology and pedagogy at the same time. Studies in Poland • last usually 5 years • after the third year, students can get a Bachelor’s degree • after 5 years, they write their thesis, pass an exam and get a Master’s degree A lot of students study at two faculties simultaneously.
