For 2014

• OMeGA is the only third party organization supporting orthopaedic GME across all subspecialties • More OMeGA donors, increased support

To date, 526 grants awarded in 16 cycles

• 338 fellowship grants • 150 residency/general education grants • 38 residency/core competency innovation grants

Number of applications far exceeds funding levels

• For fellowship

and

residency categories • Large disparity in funding between fellowship subspecialties • Funding relative to amount requested o o Residency 35.42% Fellowship 15.33%

Recent survey to programs regarding fellowship funding

• How are fellows funded?

• What are the consequences of reduced GME funding?

• Findings

Conversations with donors

• Promising • Ever changing environment • Programs would like OMeGA’s schedule aligned with the fellowship match, however most companies can only support annual distribution of funding

Coordinated support for GME funding

• AAOS, OREF, AOA, and subspecialty societies must communicate a consistent and strong message to industry for them to increase their support for GME

Double recognition and appreciation for OMeGA donors
