Alliteration
• The repetition of beginning consonant
sounds in neighboring word
– Tongue twisters are an extreme example.
• She sells sea shells down by the sea
shore.
• Peter piper picked a peck of pickled
peppers.
Alliteration Examples
• “It was the wicked and wild wind; Blew
down the doors to let me in” - Coldplay
• “Karma, Karma, Karma Chameleon, you

• “Better be a better boy before you bother

Consonance
• Consonance- the repetition of middle or
consonant sounds in neighboring words
Doug ate twelve cakes and now seems to
have a stomach issues.
Assonance
• The repetition of vowel sounds in
neighboring words
Ted and Katie went to see a tree being
planted on the first day of spring.
Assonance Examples

Onomatopoeia
• The use of words to imitate
sounds
–Animal sounds (moo, ribbit, cluck,
