NORTHLAND CAPS
Northland Center for Advanced Professional Studies
To provide high school students in the Northland with a pre-professional,
innovative and entrepreneurial education through career oriented experiences
that are both hands on and real world.
 Medicine and Healthcare: This course embeds students in the hospital setting, providing real
world experienced in the dynamic field of medicine and healthcare.
 Global Business and Entrepreneurship: This course is designed for students that are interested
in an ever-changing world, where business and marketing decisions must adapt to the global economy.
 Technology Solutions: This course is ideal for students who are interested in developing the
professional and technical skills required to forge forward in exploring all areas of technology.

Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing: This course is designed for students who are
interested in engineering and manufacturing fundamentals, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
 Global Logistics and Transportation: Global Logistics and Transportation is ideal for students
who are interested in developing the professional technical skills required to forge forward in
exploring all areas of logistics and transportation.
Northland CAPS is open to students from the school districts of Kearney, Liberty, North Kansas City,
Park Hill, Platte County, and Smithville.
College Bound Recommendations
 English – 4 credits
 Math – 4 credits
 Social Studies – 3 credits
 Science – 3 credits
 Foreign Language – 2 credits
 Fine Arts – 1 credit
*Strongly encouraged to take Dual Credit and/or AP classes.
*Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA
*Achieve Missouri state average on the ACT…21 or higher
A+ School Requirements
 Attend a designated A+ school for 3 consecutive years
 Graduate with a 2.5 or higher grade point average
 Have a minimum 95% attendance record
 Perform 50 hours of unpaid tutoring
 Maintain good citizenship
 Students must score advanced or proficient on the
Algebra I End-Of-Course Exam (EOC)

Schedule Change Policy
 Pick class selections VERY carefully
 Schedule change policy is strictly enforced
 Class changes must have Administration
approval
Class changes will be approved for
the following reasons only:
 Prerequisite Courses Not Met – Many courses require a
prerequisite. If a student has not met the necessary prerequisite, a new
course will be submitted.
 Duplicate Credit – Student has already taken the course and passed it
 Graduation Requirement -A required graduation requirement is
not listed on your schedule.
 More Challenging Course – Request to move to a more
rigorous/challenging course
MENTOR PROGRAM
FUNCTIONS:
 To transition 8th graders into the high school
 To provide support for Freshmen for academic & social success
 Mentors serve as peer buddies and are available to: guide
Seminar activities; help Freshmen to be involved in clubs,
sports and other school functions; listen & provide advice;
PLAY on event nights: help Freshmen get acquainted with
PCHS academics, environment, teachers, students, etc…
