The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs
(ORSP) is the University unit responsible for the
review of all grant and contract proposals.
Any award resulting from a proposal is made to
the institution, which is the grantee or the
contractor.
Pre-Award Compliance
• Compliance letters. Humans, Animals, rDNA,
Biosafety, Radiation Safety, etc. to ensure the
safety and well being of subjects and personnel
involved in the research
• Training and Certification
• Other Support
• Time and Effort
• Cost Share
Post Award NIH Approval
• Change in Scope of work
• Pre-award costs (more than 90 days prior to the
effective date of a new or competing continuation
award)
• Change in key personnel
• Change in grantee organization
• Change in grantee organizational status

Post Award NIH Approval
• Addition of a foreign component under a grant to a
domestic organization
• Changes to award terms and conditions or undertaking
any activities disapproved or restricted as a term of

contract, or other means)

• There is a presumed level of knowledge when
an employee is assigned to manage a grant.
• As with most professional organizations, Grants
Administrators use their own language with
specialized terms.
