What is Progressivism?

 It was a shared belief that industrialization &
urbanization created troubling social and political
problems.
 Progressives wanted to create reforms that would
correct these problems and injustices.
What problems did women face
during the Gilded Age?

 Women wanted to expand their
roles in their community beyond
being wives and mothers.
 Work was difficult to find, and
often included long hours &
dangerous conditions.
 Women often had little to no
education which left them
vulnerable to being cheated or
bullied by employers.
