Phase 1: Build up and Dispersal
 Managing attacking play in Defensive 1/3
 Utilization of attacking POP
 Utilize the Goalkeeper as a field player
 Techniques needed:
 First touch efficiency
 One and two touch passing
 Quick dribbling to the outside only
when necessary
 Ability to shield the ball
Phase 1: Build up and Dispersal
 Other characteristics:
 Vision to play ball wide or advance
 Ability to change point of attack
 Play can go to next phase when:
 Able to advance to middle third by

Phase 2: Consolidation
 Increase numbers by defenders runs

 Create critical gaps in the defense

Phase 2: Consolidation

• Phases 1-3 should incorporate:
– One and two touch passes as team
– Allows quick build-up
• Phase 4 can employ more creativity to
– Create goal scoring opportunity with:
• Extra touches
• Extra passes
Balanced Training Models
• Rondos
– 5v2’s (“Monkey in the Middle”)
• Start simple
• Then progress to players following their passes:
– To create movement
– Enhance psychosocial elements
– Players will be more engaged than in pairs
– 4v4+3
• Use neutral objective players for directional play
– Technical skills work with the freeze method.
