The first thing you’ll want to know is that if you hold the power button down for less
than two seconds, the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet screen will turn off and any running
applications will be paused. This mode is called “Standby”, and it’s good to use if you
need to put down your tablet for a bit but will be using it again shortly. To wake up the
BlackBerry PlayBook tablet when it is in standby mode, all you need to do is swipe from
bezel to bezel. This means you can swipe from left to right, right to left, top to bottom or
bottom to top – whatever you prefer!
While in Standby mode, the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet Wi-Fi ® and Bluetooth® radio
are still turned on, which means if you are using Wi-Fi File Sharing, you can still connect
to the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet from your personal computer, allowing to you copy
files to and from it – very convenient!



To turn off or restart the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, all you need to do is hold down the power button for
longer than two seconds, which causes the above menu to appear. I recommend turning off your tablet instead
of using standby if you don’t plan on using it for a while. You can also tap the battery icon that appears in the
top right corner to display the following menu with options to Shut Down, Stand By or Restart. Additionally,
you can adjust your screen brightness from this menu as well, which is convenient!
The thing I’d like to share next is really important, as this is the recommended way to reset your BlackBerry
PlayBook tablet in case you need to. When you reset the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, it will immediately restart
the BlackBerry tablet operating system, in case you encounter an issue while using the tablet.
With the above being said, to reset your BlackBerry PlayBook tablet, all you need to do is hold down the power
button for ten seconds and you’ll notice the screen shut off. Once it has shut off, press the power button to start
your tablet up again.

How to access BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0
Settings
To access your settings, tap on the “Settings”
(Gear) icon that appears on the status bar in the
top right hand corner of your BlackBerry tablet.
You also have the ability to use two different
gestures to access your BlackBerry PlayBook tablet
settings. The first is to swipe down from the top
bezel when viewing the Home screen. The second
gesture allows you to peek at your status bar while
using another app, so you can optionally tap on
the “Settings” icon.

The peek gesture in particular is really useful since it’s a quick
way to access status bar settings for your screen orientation lock,
BlackBerry Bridge technology, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi settings and more.

Airplane Mode
The next time you are on an airplane or in a place
that requires you turn off your wireless
connections, you can use “Airplane Mode”. When
enabled, you’ll notice the Wi-Fi icon on the status
bar changes to an airplane icon. When you want to
reestablish your wireless connections, turn
Airplane Mode off. Just tap on the airplane icon
then switch to “Off”.

Wi-Fi
To review and manage Wi-Fi settings and as well
as perform basic troubleshooting, you’ll want to
review the Wi-Fi settings menu. In addition to the
Wi-Fi networks your tablet can currently detect,
you also have the ability to troubleshoot if
required. To access the troubleshooting options,
tap on the icon that appears in the bottom left
corner as shown in the screenshot (in the red box).


Bluetooth
BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 supports several different
Bluetooth profiles, which means you can pair things such as
your BlackBerry smartphone, wireless keyboard, or a stereo
Bluetooth headset. To setup and pair Bluetooth accessories
and review paired devices, visit this “Settings” menu.
An important setting you should customize is the Bluetooth
name of your BlackBerry tablet- this will make identifying
your tablet during the pairing process much easier. Another
thing to keep in mind is that in order to allow other
Bluetooth-enabled devices to search for your BlackBerry
tablet, you need to make it discoverable by setting the
“Discoverable” switch to “On”. To help protect your
BlackBerry tablet against unauthorized access, I’d
recommend using the “2 minutes only” option.

BlackBerry ID
In order to set up a BlackBerry PlayBook tablet,
you must create a BlackBerry ID during the
initial setup process if you don’t already have
one. After entering your BlackBerry ID login
details during the tablet setup process, you can
review your BlackBerry ID settings using this
menu. You also have the ability to change your
password and password recovery question if
needed.

Internet Tethering
One of the Bluetooth profiles supported by the
BlackBerry PlayBook tablet is the ability to use
Dial-Up Networking (DUN). This allows you
to leverage the Internet connection of a mobile
phone or other Internet-enabled device.

Steps to configure tethering are below:
• In order to tether your tablet to a Bluetooth enabled device, your
smartphone must have a data plan that supports tethering, and your
wireless service provider must allow tethering. Your smartphone
must also be Bluetooth enabled, and the IT policy for Bluetooth
DUN must be enabled. For more information about any of these
requirements, contact your wireless service provider or
administrator, check your wireless service plan, and consult the
documentation that came with your smartphone.
1. On your tablet, tap > Internet Tethering.
2. Select a Bluetooth enabled smartphone from the list.
3. To assign an Internet tethering profile, do one of the following:
1. Select a wireless service provider from the list.
2. To create a custom profile, tap Add and complete the fields.
4. Tap Connect.


When you're not using the tethering connection, you
should disconnect the session. To disconnect, tap >
Internet Tethering > Disconnect.
While your smartphone is tethered to your tablet, you
might not be able to use your smartphone's Phone
application, Messaging applications, or applications
that use the Internet. To receive a phone call, your
smartphone might turn off the tethered internet
connection. In addition, when your tablet is tethered to
a smartphone, you cannot send messages from your
tablet to the tethered smartphone.

About video chats
See your friends, colleagues, or family members in highresolution, real-time video as you chat with them directly
from one BlackBerry PlayBook tablet to another. You can
easily share your surroundings by switching between the
front-facing and rear-facing cameras. If you prefer, you can
turn off video altogether at the beginning of the call for a
voice-only chat.
To start a video chat, both BlackBerry PlayBook tablets must
be connected to a Wi-Fi network.
All incoming and outgoing video chats, including
unanswered video chat requests, are recorded in the video
chat history on both tablets.
Video chat is free to call any playbook user.
