The Opportunity
Momentum exists to change the way social and health care are delivered in UK
Social Enterprise being encouraged as one method to promote innovative and new solutions
Many funding organisations growing up to fund new businesses on back of asset security only.
Transfer of publicly owned assets to communities being talked about
Some grant money on one off basis available to assist new businesses
Currently opportunistic rather than strategic industry
Key to future success to create self sustaining businesses as quickly as possible
New businesses need more support to minimise risk and to shorten start up period to break-even
(self sustainability) and require seed capital to accelerate development.
SCA
SCA has existed for 18 years as social enterprise in this sector
Recognised as one of the prime movers by all stakeholders
Successful, properly constituted, experienced back office infrastructure, well connected with
Stakeholders, talented management & Board – keen to lever current position to further fulfil its
mission
To maximise influence needs to raise “risk capital” to allow it to broaden its current activities and
lead innovation and deliver new solutions
