Program Description
0 The Master of Education degree program in Middle Grades
Education or Secondary Education prepares middle grades
teachers or secondary grades teachers to be expert
teacher-leaders. It is a content focused, standards-based
program which meets the Georgia Professional Standards
Commission standards for the degree and is fully
accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of
Teacher Education (NCATE), now the Council for the
Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
Online & Hybrid Options
0 If your teaching field area is MATH or English/Language
Arts, then your program is delivered as a fully online
program when you add an endorsement area.
0 If your teaching field area is Science or History/Social
Studies, then your program is delivered as a hybrid program,
which means classes will meet in-person and online.

Degree Requirements
The requirements for completion of an M.Ed. degree in Middle
Grades Education or Secondary Education include:
0 completion of a minimum of 36 hours of approved graduate
course work;
0 completion of a minimum of 27 semester hours of the
minimum 36 hours in full standing at Kennesaw State
University;
0 an earned cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 in all
graduate course work at Kennesaw State University; and
0 no grades below “C .”
Program of Study
0 Candidates for the M. Ed. in Middle Grades Education and for the M.Ed.
in Secondary Education take a combination of courses in the
professional education sequence, teaching field, and elective areas.
0 All teaching field courses must be approved by the graduate teaching
field advisor prior to registration each semester.
0 Candidates may take elective courses in an endorsement field and add
the respective endorsement to their certificate.
0 Total number of hours in the program must equal 36 with at least 18
hours in the professional sequence and at least 12 hours in the
teaching field.
0 Students must petition to graduate during the semester PRIOR to their
