Characters
 God
 Good, involved, systematic, powerful, in-charge, caring, originator of life
 Adam and Eve
 Adam created by God in His own image
 Eve is companion for, yet comparable to Adam
 God establishes hierarchy among equals by communicating His Garden
instructions to Adam
• Adam is responsible for communicating them to Eve
 Commanded to be fruitful and multiply
 Serpent
 Beautiful, cunning, knowledgeable
 Creates doubt and suspicions about God’s character and Word
Narrative – Gen 2
God Gives Instructions to Adam
Instructed concerning two types of trees(16)
 God prohibited Adam from eating of the tree of life
• Adam had to have faith in God’s goodness
• Adam had to trust God’s word
 All other trees were acceptable
Instructed to name the animals(18-20)
 Required Adam to exercise obedience
 Obedience led to illumination of Adam’s need for a
suitable companion
Narrative – Gen 2
God Gives Instructions to Adam
Creates Eve from Adam’s rib (21-22)
 Instructs Adam and Eve regarding family dynamics
 Requires faith, obedience and teaching to successive
generations
God’s instructions indicate His interest in a
faith-based relationship with man
www.themegallery.
Fall – Gen 3
The Serpent questions God’s
goodness (1-5)
 Approaches Eve because of her subordinate
position (Eve had trusted Adam’s instructions)
 The serpent wanted Eve to act independently
of her husband
Eve gives in to temptation and sins
 She makes a decision based on:
• Desire of the flesh
• Desire of the eyes
• Desire of pride
 Adam disregards God’s instruction; listens to
his wife

Fall – Gen 3
 Both suffer the consequences of their sin (8-24)





Separation (from God and the security of the Garden)
Fear (of God…”I was naked; so I hid myself.”)
Shame (aware of ‘self’)
Guilt (tries to avoid responsibility for actions)
Death (spiritual and physical)
Man continues to suffer consequences of sin today
 Suspects God’s character and doubts His word; blames God and
others for the imperfections of the world
 Man struggles to submit to authority (divine and human)
 Man’s dominion over creation is lost to serpent (1 Jn 5:19)
 Judgment falls on the world in the flood
 Man is afflicted with insecurities and fears
www.themegallery.
Promise – Gen 3
God’s promise (15)
 One would come
 He would deal with the serpent
God’s provision
 A sacrifice and covering for man’s sin
 Visual lesson that sin is costly
 An innocent animal died to cover man’s nakedness
God’s mercy
 Adam and Eve are evicted from the Garden
 Denying access to the Tree of Life keeps them from
living eternally separated from God

What does this lesson teach about God? Man? Sin? Redemption?
What did the sin of Adam and Eve cost…
•
•
•
God?
Adam and Eve?
Creation?
 What did Cain & Abel understand about worship?
•
Where did they learn about worship?
 Why does Noah build an altar to the Lord after
God releases his family from the ark?
•
What does Noah understand about God &
redemption?
 Nimrod, the first king, wanted to build a city that
would reach up to heaven. Why did God bring
judgment on that city?
GOD SPEAKS to the earth and animals and they obey.
But God speaks to humans and they disobey.
GOD ACTS in an orderly way to create shape and fill His
world. He judges Adam and Eve and puts them out of
the Garden of Eden. He sends a flood on the world to
judge a depraved humanity.
GOD REVEALS His creativity, order, planning,
evaluation, and His opportunity for humans to enter into
a relationship with Him. He reveals His hatred of sin and
His judgment on sinners.
