Briefing of District Thatta
General:
District was established in 1948. Its HQ was
shifted to Thatta in 1956 from Karachi.
Historical: Thatta has a glorious historical
background. It was founded by the local ruler
Jam Nizamuddin Samoo in 1490 AD.
It remained the capital more than 400 years
(1340 to 1792). The Mughal Governors
designated as Nawbs lived in Thatta.


Geography:
In the North is District Jamshoro, East: Badin
and Hyderabad, West: karachi, South Arabian
Sea. Northern part of the District is hilly
known as Kohistan, connecting it with
Khirthar mountain range. The southern
western part is saline and sea affected due to
long coastline of about 107 KMs in Indus
Delta.
Five Taluka are on the right bank and four
Taluka on the left bank of the river.

Climate:
Generally climate is moderate.
 Lake:
Keenjhar lake is the biggest after Manchar Lake,
it supplies for agriculture land and drinking
water to Karachi. An other large lake is Haleji
it also supplies water to Karachi and also
used for wildlife preservation.


Makli Graveyard:
It is spread over an area of 20 Sq. miles. It is biggest Muslim
graveyard in the world having more than 500000 graves
including monuments, tombs and shrine of kings, saints, and of
religious scholars.
Fishing:
It is primarily done from Arabian Sea, Kinjhar Lake and River
Indus, small lakes, water channels and Fish Farms. There are
Shrimp Farms in coastal areas.
Mining:
Stone from Makli Hill and Kohistan is supplied to Pakistan Steel Mill,
Thatta Cement Factory and for construction works.

Cont:
Industrial Units:
five sugar mills, 9 textile mills, one cement
factory and several rice and flour mills are in
Dhabaji and Gharo Industrial area.
 Tourist and Recreation spots:
Kinjhar Lake, Haleji Lake,Keti Bunder, Shah
Bunder, Bhambor, Makli, Shah Jahan Mosque,
Soonda etc.

