The Coming of The Holy Spirit
Acts 2:1-13
1. Which festival day the disciples were
together on one accord? Acts 2:1
When the Day of
Pentecost had fully
come, they were all with
one accord in one place.
PENTECOST
The fiftieth day from the morrow after the first
Passover sabbath
Leviticus 23:15,16
And ye shall count unto you from the morrow
after the sabbath, from the day that ye brought
the sheaf of the wave offering; seven sabbaths
shall be complete:
2. What suddenly came from Heaven
that filled the house? Acts 2:2
* And suddenly there
came a sound from
heaven, as of a
rushing mighty wind,
and it filled the whole
house where they
were sitting.
* Wind was a familiar
emblem of the Spirit
Read: Ezekiel 37:9
and John 3:8
3. Describe what sat upon each of
the disciples? Acts 2:3
Then there
appeared to them
divided tongues,
as of fire, and one
sat upon each of
them.
Coming of The Holy Spirit
Tongue-shaped,
flame-like
appearances,
and resting
upon each
person.

Birth of The Church
4. What was it the disciples were
filled with on Pentecost? Acts 2:4
And they were all filled
with the Holy Spirit
and began to speak
with other tongues,
as the Spirit gave
them utterance.
The Gift of the Holy Spirit
• The traditional view sees the gift of
tongues as a distinctly linguistic power.
• The divine Spirit giving not only comfort
and insight into truth, but fresh powers of
utterance.
• A supernatural knowledge of all such
languages as they needed for their work
as evangelists.
5. Who were living in Jerusalem
when the Holy Spirit came? Acts 2:5
• And there were
dwelling in
Jerusalem Jews,
devout men, from
every nation
under heaven.
• Devout Jews who
had come up to
the great feast of
Pentecost.
Devout Men
• Men of religion and piety, of faith and
holiness; and as the Syriac version
renders it, "who feared God"; for in these
worst of times, there were some who had
the fear of God before their eyes, and in
their hearts.
6. Why was the multitude of
people confused? Acts 2:6
And when this sound
occurred, the
multitude came
together, and were
confused, because
everyone heard
them speak in his
own language.
7. What did the people say about the disciples
speaking a different language? Acts 2:7-8
7. Then they were all amazed and
marveled, saying to one another, "Look,
are not all these who speak Galileans?
8. "And how is it that we hear, each in our
own language in which we were born?
Most of the disciples to this time were
Galileans. The Galileans were not
generally educated, yet now everyone
hear in their own language.
8. What were the disciples saying as they
spoke in a difference language? Acts 2:9-11
9. What did the people say to one
another? Acts 2:12
So they were all
amazed and
perplexed,
saying to one
another,
"Whatever could
this mean?"
10. What did other people say about
the work of the Holy Spirit? Acts 2:13
Others mocking
said, "They are
full of new wine.“
