Daughter Safety & Awareness Program

What is this presentation?

• A course so you understand the Youth Protection Program.

• An opportunity to know what your adults have been taught about the Youth Protection Program.

• An opportunity for you to ask questions regarding the Youth Protection Program.

® Approved 3/14 Rev A 2

Why a Youth Protection Program?

• In 2007, Job’s Daughters adults agreed that a program was needed to show that our organization cared about the youth we served and worked to develop a plan.

® Approved 3/14 Rev A 3

Youth Protection Program

The Youth Protection Program (YPP) was created to help keep Daughters safe.

And give you the security to know that the adults working with Job’s Daughters have your best interests in mind ® Approved 3/14 Rev A 4

Bad things can happen…

In the world that we live in, it is important that adults do their best to protect you.

When you watch TV or movies, you might see things happening to children that upset you.

Can you think of a time when an adult treated you in such a way that you did not feel nurtured or cared for?

® Approved 3/14 Rev A 5

Bad things can happen…

That is NOT how we want our adults to act!!

® Approved 3/14 Rev A 6

Youth Protection Program

All adults who serve on a Bethel Council or in other leadership roles must be a

“Certified Adult Volunteer”

They are sometimes called “CAVs” and at least one certified adult must be present at any Bethel sponsored function.

® Approved 3/14 Rev A 8

What does it take to be a CAV?

A Certified Adult Volunteer has: • had 6 hours of training; • undergone a background check; • received a card, which must be renewed yearly; and • paid the initial fee or renewal fee.

® Approved 3/14 Rev A 9

What if an adult is not a CAV?

• • • • He/she is an adult who: supports JDI activities; does not have a current CAV card; cannot serve as a leader; and may only chaperone his/her own daughter.

Not being a CAV limits what an adult can do to help the Bethel.

Reputation in the community

Having the YPP helps maintain Job’s Daughters’ good reputation in the community.

People will know that we are serious about keeping you safe.

® Approved 3/14 Rev A 11

How will this help me?

YOU are important!! • JDI wants to provide a safe environment for you to grow and develop.

• You and your adults need to know and follow the YPP policy.

• This will help reduce frustration and issues between you and your adult leaders. ® Approved 3/14 Rev A 12

Activities Guidelines

– Hazing is an initiation activity that includes a form of intimidation or harassment, verbal or physical.

– What may seem harmless by you may be seen as a threat or form of intimidation by another.
