WATCHMEN
Ezekiel 33:1-11
Ezekiel 3:17-21
WATCHMEN OF CHRIST
• (Eph 6:18) Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the
Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and
supplication for all saints; (19) And for me, that utterance may be
given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known
the mystery of the gospel, (20) For which I am an ambassador in
bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
• (Phi 2:3) Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in
lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. (4)
Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the
things of others. (5) Let this mind be in you, which was also in
Christ Jesus:

partakers of his holiness. (11) Now no chastening for the
present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless
afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness
unto them which are exercised thereby.
WATCHMEN TO OUR BRETHREN
• Rebuke– to reprimand; words expressive of disapproval of behavior that is
not Christ-like
• Admonish–
–
–
–
1. To instruct or direct.
2. To warn or notify of a fault; to reprove with mildness
3. To counsel against wrong practices; to caution or advise
4. to reprove a member of the church for a fault, either publicly
or privately; the first step of church discipline. It is followed by
of, or against; as, to admonish of a fault committed, or against
committing a fault. It has a like use in colleges.
WATCHMEN TO OUR BRETHREN
(Rom 15:14) “…I myself also am persuaded…that
ye are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge,
able also to admonish one another.”
(Titus 2:15) “rebuke with all authority. Let no man
despise thee.”
(I Tim 5:20-21) “Them that sin rebuke before
all…doing nothing by partiality.”
(Titus 1:11-14) “rebuke them sharply”
WATCHMEN TO OUR BRETHREN
• (Mat 18:15) Moreover if thy brother shall trespass
against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and
him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy
brother. (16) But if he will not hear thee, then take with
thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three
witnesses every word may be established. (17) And if he
shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if
he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an
heathen man and a publican.
• (1Jo 3:17) But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth
his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of
compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in
him? (18) My little children, let us not love in word,
neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
WATCHMEN TO THE WORLD
• (Mat 28:19) Go ye therefore, and teach all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son,
and of the Holy Ghost: (20) Teaching them to observe all
things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am
with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
• (Mat 5:14) Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set
on an hill cannot be hid. (15) Neither do men light a
candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick;
and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. (16) Let
your light so shine before men, that they may see your
good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
PREACHING THE GOSPEL
• (Acts 16:5) the churches “increased in number
daily”
• (Acts 9:31) “these that have turned the world
upside down”
• (Col 1:23) the gospel “was preached to every
creature…under heaven”
THE GOSPEL IS FOR ALL
• (Joh 3:17) For God sent not his Son into the
world to condemn the world; but that the world
through him might be saved.
• (Col 1:27) To whom God would make known
what is the riches of the glory of this mystery
among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the
hope of glory: (28) Whom we preach, warning
EVERY man, and teaching EVERY man in all
wisdom; that we may present EVERY man
perfect in Christ Jesus:
WARNING OF DANGER!!!
• (1Pe 5:8) Be sober, be vigilant; because
your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion,
walketh about, seeking whom he may
devour:
CAUTION TO THE “REBUKER”
• (1Ti 5:1) Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as
brethren; (2) The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity.
• (Mat 7:3) And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but
considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? (4) Or how wilt thou say to thy
brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine
own eye? (5) Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then
shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.
• (Mat 23:13) But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the
kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye
them that are entering to go in. (23) Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees,
hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the
weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have
done, and not to leave the other undone. (24) Ye blind guides, which strain at a
gnat, and swallow a camel. (25) Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!
for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of
extortion and excess. (26) Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the
cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also. (27) Woe unto you,
scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which
indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all
uncleanness. (28) Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within
ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
THE PURPOSE
• II Thess 3:14- “that he might be ashamed…”
• I Co 5:5- “that the spirit may be saved in the day
of the Lord Jesus.”
• Col 1:28- “that we may present every man
perfect in Christ Jesus…”
WHAT TYPE OF WATCHMEN ARE
WE?
• Like Jonah??
• (Isa 56:10) His watchmen are blind: they are all
ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot
bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber.
(11) Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never
have enough, and they are shepherds that
cannot understand: they all look to their own
way, every one for his gain, from his quarter.
(12) Come ye, say they, I will fetch wine, and
we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and to
morrow shall be as this day, and much more
abundant.
