Traffic Safety Environment
Modification
3. Walk This Way
1. Improve the safety walk-ability conditions outside of
the target schools (Zebra crossing, Rumble strips,
“school ahead” signal, parking area inside school for
the parents..)
2. Develop “Walk safety” manual for students &
training material for teachers
3. Provide the target school with “walk safety”
teaching tools: stop hand, street/traffic corner
mock-up
Pedestrian campaign
Before renovation
No zebra crossing, rumble strips or traffic
signs; Street vendor at school gate –
frequent congestion
After Renovation
Speed bumps, zebra crossing, traffic
signs - significantly calmer traffic
4. E-Learning Curriculum
Danger and Safety
The streets around you
Traffic lights
Safe walking
Safe crossing

HVI concept
• Identify appropriate local partners in government, business,
and within civil society in developing countries with the largest
need
•Initiate Helmets for Kids programs for children through schools
and diffuse public awareness of helmet safety in communities.
•Review quality standards. Introduce standards to cover
‘tropical’ helmets.
•Work with government partners to create an enabling
legislative environment and enforcement mechanism for
helmet use.
•Build a local factory to produce helmets on a non-profit basis,
and employ the physically disabled in the workplace.
•Launch public awareness campaigns in partnership with public
and corporate sectors.
•Announce legislation and enforcement changes as necessary.
•Continue education, awareness, marketing. Continue working
with government on enforcement and quality issues as needed.
Thank you for attention!
