• FASD Edmonton Annual Conference Opening comments:
Annual Budget $16.5million
• 1 in 4 in Alberta diagnosed with FASD 36,000 people
• 500 a year born with FASD
• 26 diagnostic centres
Manitoba FASD Centre
• Centre was established in 1999
• No statistics on ethnicity, approx
200 new diagnoses a year
• The oldest age they treat is 18
and cannot diagnose adults
• 60% of referals come from the
child welfare department
• Welfare department has 4
specialised FASD officers
• Community workshops are help
once a month at night for
parents/carers
