school year!
• Congratulations to the new inductees! Amazing
work. As for the returning members, you guys are
seniors! Kind of…
• Introducing the new officers by the 2013-2014
officers
Ground Rules
• I’m sure everyone is aware of all the requirements in
order to obtain NHS membership, but in case you
aren’t sure, you should ask questions at this time.
The principle ones are listed below:
• Make sure you attend 80% of all NHS meetings
• 40 CS Hours, regardless of where you volunteered
• 20 Service Hours gained from NHS-Specific Projects, anything
that we do as a chapter. These do not go into Virtual
Counselor
• Participation and Dedication is highly recommended*
Website
• shsnationalhonorsociety.weebly.com
• On the website, we share crucial information such
as meeting dates, forms, upcoming events, and
event pictures.
• For most NHS activities, if not all, there will be a field
trip form to complete. These can be obtained
through the website. If field trip forms aren’t turned
in on-time for an event, the event will be cancelled.
Upcoming Activities
• Above the Influence Rally!!!
• Saturday, May 17th, from 8am to 1pm.
• You’ll be marching from Apollo Middle to McArthur High
School, and ending at McArthur with a fun rally.
• Anyone that is interested should access the website or
visit Mrs. Hanrahan’s office for a permission slip.
Upcoming Activities (cont.)
• Teacher Appreciation Week is this week, May 5th- 9th
• We will package small bags of candy to leave in
the teachers’ mailboxes (unless anyone has a
better idea, which we will highly consider)
• Whoever can, please bring in small candies for
Teacher Appreciation Week!
Upcoming Activities (cont.)
• ESE Assistance
• After-School assistance in the ESE room is needed,
so please give them some help!
• Our ESE Liaison , Victoria Ramassini, has worked very
closely with the ESE students and has also
coordinated projects with them. Please see Victoria
if you have any further questions.
Urban Garden Project
• AS YOU GUYS SHOULD KNOW, the Urban Garden has
been an ongoing project started up again this past
school year by NHS.
• We meet at the garden Mondays and Wednesdays
after school, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
• There are a few members who always come to assist, so
thank you very much for your help! :D
• However, we need more members out in the garden to
not only keep the project itself going, but to help the
plants thrive, and have crops to use.

NHS County Convention
• This past Friday, BCNHS hosted a County
Convention, where NHS members from high schools
all over Broward County gathered to share news of
the past year.
• Some news from the convention: BCNHS meetings
will no longer be hosted at South Plantation HS, but
here at Stranahan.
• The members that went to the convention can
share their experiences at this time!
Elections
• We have two positions open for office, and the
candidates are (well, should be) ready to give you their
speech on why they should have that position.

Closing Quote
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that
we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most
frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing
enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around
you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It’s not just in some of us; it
is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give
other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own
fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
- Coach Carter (2005)
