Review
Plan and
Revise
What has changed that we should
consider as we update the plan?
• New directive from the federal
government : focus for special education
should be on accessing the state
standards curriculum
• The Olmstead Plan
• Others?
Communication
• We all have different stories and draw conclusions
• There is information we don’t have that others can
provide through listening to their stories/information
• Moving from certainty of our story to curiosity of other
stories provides us with the full picture
• How you each see things matters, how you feel matters
• We can assert the strength of our views without
diminishing the views and feelings of someone else
and get a broader view.
Suggested ground rules
• Raise your hand to be called on by the facilitator
• Say your name before you speak or sign in the large
group, and in the small group if requested.
• No side conversations and cross-talking whether
speaking or signing during presentations and
discussions.
• Share the conversation so that everyone has an equal
opportunity to express their ideas.
• Sign for yourself if comfortable, make it clear to the
interpreter if you want to use her services.
• Allow for lag time for interpreter.
Communication Guidelines
– Divergent opinions are welcome
– Stay on task
– Make sure everyone has equal
opportunity to participate
Report Back Intervals:
• This morning – Each group will give a short
progress report and work plan for the summit.
• At 3:30 today – Temp Check Evaluation Forms
• 9:00 Tues. - Each group will highlight three
“take-aways” from their work groups, Day 1.
• 3:00 Tues. – Final Words and Action Plan for
2014-15
