Environmental Factors
Often environmental conditions dictate (determine) that a
group migrate from a place. Examples lack of food,
changing climatic conditions.
Religious Persecution
When governments persecute
members of a religious minority
those people often migrate more
tolerant locations.
Jews during WWII
Ethnic Persecution
Ethnic groups will often migrate to escape unfair
treatment (persecution) by another group.
Economic Motives
• Poverty and unemployment is often a Push
factor motivating people to migrate to
locations of opportunity.
Forced
Migration
Sometimes government
or other circumstances
will force another group
of people to migrate.
Political Factors
• Often political instability and revolution force
people to flee their homelands. The desire to find
greater political freedoms may also motivate people
to migrate.
