Work Ability Program

Objectives

Provide unemployed New Brunswickers who are being case managed with an opportunity for skill development by matching them with appropriate eligible employers.

  Help prepare unemployed New Brunswickers for long-term sustainable employment.

Reduce the number of individuals on income support.

 

Eligible Participants

I

ndividuals

Persons who are deemed unemployed, and have established an employment action plan that requires employment experience

Employers

Non-profit organizations - Private sector companies - Municipalities - Government Department and Agencies

Funding

The program provides 100% wage reimbursement for temporary employment exposure/experience opportunities to a maximum of $6.25/hr to non-profit organizations, municipalities, provincial government departments/agencies and private sector businesses.

Delivery Structure

  Individuals gain access to the Work Ability program after having established an employment action plan with an Employment Counselor Employers interested in providing a participant with an opportunity for skill development, job exposure or job experience can register by submitting an inventory registration form at any of our regional offices or at Central Office.

Workforce Expansion Program

Objectives

To stimulate the creation of long term employment Create opportunities for unemployed individuals by providing financial assistance to eligible employers.

To assist unemployed individuals in securing permanent employment.

To help individuals create jobs for themselves through self-employment.

To reduce the number of individuals on income support (EI and SA).

To stimulate the hiring of post secondary graduates in New Brunswick

Employer Wage Subsidy

Eligible participants

- Private sector companies - Non-profit organizations

Funding

-This component provides partial wage subsidies to private sector or non-profit organizations for the creation of permanent employment.

Regular: 50% for 12- 24 weeks Targeted: 70% for 24 wks (SAR, Disabled, Aboriginal, visible minorities ) Post Secondary Grad.: 70% for 40 weeks (first exp. in their field of study & within 2 years of degree completion) Seasonal (3-9 months of work): 50% for 10-14 wks

Self Employment Benefits

(S.E.B.)

Contact: Peter MacLean 444-5868 ` Objectives: To assist unemployed New Brunswickers, interested in self-employment, in starting their own businesses Eligible Participants - Persons currently receiving Employment Insurance benefits or persons who have received EI in the past 3 years or 5 years if it was a maternity or parental claim

Funding

 Funding  -If your business plan is approved you may continue to receive your EI benefits for the duration of your claim, or a provincially determined rate once your claim has ended, up to a maximum of 45 weeks

Successes

 There were 81 participants approved for the Self Employment Benefit Program in 2003.  60-70% were successful and able to continue their business after the first year.

Training and Skills Development Program

Objectives

To ensure that case managed individuals, whose employment action plan identifies skill development as being necessary, have access to funding to assist them in achieving their goal.

To help prepare New Brunswickers for current and emerging employment opportunities.

Components

    Regular Skills Training Academic Upgrading Apprenticeship Strategic Initiatives

Eligible Participants

Individuals who:

- are EI eligible; - are unemployed, underemployed or employment threatened; - are case managed; - require skills training in order to access employment.

- have been out of secondary school for more than 3 years and have an attachment to the labour force

Funding

 The program provides funding to approved participants to cover up to 50% of training related costs and replacement of E.I. upon termination of benefits.

 Program participants Contact DPETL’s Regional Office 444-4620 for services (needs determination and financial assessment).

Adjustment Services

       Objective  It's your business, but we can help you respond to the challenges and opportunities unique to your situation. Through our Adjustment Services, we have helped hundreds of New Brunswick businesses to conduct human resources planning in situations such as: restructure to meet new market conditions, smooth the transition to new technologies and production methods, adapt to a growing workforce with new skills, and ease the impact of layoffs and closures on their company and workers Turnover and Recruitment challenges Develop Human Resource Development Plans Diagnostic of the Company

Adjustment Services

Eligible Participants

Private sector employers - Non-profit organizations - Community based groups - First Nations  Funding - Financial assistance in support of the Adjustment Committee’s activities, normally at 50% for a Private sector employer .

Job Placement Services Career Information Centre

TESS

Employment Assistance Services

Unemployed Individuals  Funding - The services are provided at no cost to the clients  Examples of Services -YMCA Employment Services, Multicultural Association Employment Services, Jobs Unlimited Employment Program, CNIB, CPA & CMHA Employment Counselors

Student Employment and Experience Development (S.E.E.D.) Program

Objectives

   To provide students with work experience and exposure to potential career opportunities.

To expose students to entrepreneurship as a possible career option.

To help students finance their education.

Components

   Summer Employment Placements Student Entrepreneurship (Contact: Alfred Doucet 444-4851) Co-op Placements

Eligible Participants

  Individuals - Full-time students who are going on/returning to post-secondary studies Employers - Municipalities - Non-profit organizations - Government departments/agencies

Funding

 The program provides $6.25/hr to non-profit organizations and provincial government departments and agencies.

 The Student Entrepreneurship Component provides a loan guarantee of up to $3,000 to start a summer business.

Delivery Structure

 Although employers can submit their applications to DPETL’s regional offices, the requests are processed at TED Central Office for the Summer Employment Placement and Co-operative Placement components.

 The applications for the Student Entrepreneurship component are received and processed at the regional offices. (Contact Alfred Doucet 444-4851
