Federal Depository Library
Program (FDLP)
To ensure that the American people have
access to Federal Government information, the
U.S. Congress passed a piece legislature (Title
44, US Code, Chapter 19) to give authority for
the establishment and operation of the FDLP.
Since 1813, depository libraries have
supported the public's right to Government
information by collecting, organizing, and
preserving it, and providing assistance to
users.

Facts on the FDLP
 The goal of the Federal Depository Library Program
(FDLP) is to assure current and permanent public
access to information published by the United States
Government.
 The FDLP is governed by USC Title 44 and the
Depository Library Handbook and is administered by
the Superintendent of Documents of the GPO.
 The FDLP provides government information at no cost
to federal depository libraries
 Depository libraries then have to provide local, no fee
access to government information in an impartial
environment with professional assistance.
