Overall Access to WSS
According to National Water Policy:
• Access to water is broadly defined as the
•
availability of a minimum of 20 liters/person/day
from a protected source for 500 people within
500 meters of their dwelling.
Access to improved sanitation facilities refers to
at least adequate excreta disposal facilities
(private or shared, but not public) that can
effectively prevent human, animal, and insect
contact with excreta.

The MDG Perspective
Is Mozambique on track to reach the MDGs?
• Preliminary studies suggest that a substantial
increase in implementation rates are required for
meeting both the water supply and sanitation
targets.
• Preliminary calculations estimate that significant
increases in investment will be needed to meet
the rural water targets, while a smaller increase
will be needed to meet the urban water targets.
Sanitation needs are not yet fully assessed.
