Beta glukani su poznati kao "modifikatori biološkog odgovora " zbog
sposobnosti da aktiviraju imunološki sistem.

β-glukana ulazi u makrofaga preko Dectin-1 receptora sa ili bez TLR-2/6.
Velike β-glukan molekule se rascjepkaju na manje fragmenate unutar makrofaga u
citoplazmi.
Mali β-glukan fragmenti se preuzimaju od strane granulocita, monocita i makrofaga preko
komplementa receptora (CR) -3.

Beta glukan pomaže u prevenciji prehlade i dizanju
odbrambenih sposobnosti organizma sa visokom
signikantnošću gdje je p manje od 0,004.

Beta glukani održavaju normalne koncentracije holesterola u krvi, a mogu da se koriste i
u redukciji tjelesne težine (Soo Young i sur, 2006.).
Posredstvom beta glukana se smanjuje nivo holesterola i lipoproteina niske gustine u
serumu (Smith i sur, 2008; Talati i sur, 2009; Zechner-Krpan i sur, 2009; Wolever i sur,
2010).
