ISP-2 Use Cases
• There are three use case scenarios: one for each of the
industrial partners of ISP-2 (HAG, VCE, SC)
• All three ISP-2 use cases are realized by a common
technological framework (the Smart Vortex suite)
– This also illustrates how the technology developed can be generalized
to other applications

ISP-2 Demonstrators
• Demonstrators will show:
– Three different use cases for data stream management of
industrial data, enabling Functional Products business models
– The use of SVALI: an extensible data stream management and
validation system
– The use of an integrated data stream ontology for all
scenarios (Smart Vortex Meta-Data Schema)
– The use of a Visual Query Editor for posing continuous
queries to SVALI and visualizing the resultant streams
– Collaboration regarding data streams using audio, video and
elastic collaboration tools
– Integration of the components into a web portal framework

• Use case based on remote monitoring of a hydraulic
drive system in a wood shredder
• Online monitoring system gives alert in dashboard
• Data streams from shredder are analysed to find root
cause of problem
• On-site engineer contacted to perform corrective
action

• Use case is remote transmission clutch slip detection
and diagnostics
• Live connection exists using a gateway server for
communication with Volvo network though today we
will simulate the live data and video connection

– Onboard and offboard data stream analysis using
SVALI and VQE
– Remote trouble-shooting using video-mediated

– Analysis of business opportunities for uptime services based on the Smart Vortex
suite
– Extended range of queries including machine usage as described in DOW
– Backoffice analysis supports the expert team
• Long term vision
– Our machines are connected to our scalable backoffice analysis functions
implemented using the principles of Smart Vortex
– We have implemented services sold to our customers where we can guarantee
certain uptime using the rapid decision support enabled by Smart Vortex
– The decision support is used not only for uptime but for any end customer
production efficiency related issue such as deciding on operator training, site
logistics optimisation and machine fleet reconfiguration
