• Science & Technology Advisory Group (STAG)
recommendation 8 years ago: Taiwan should have at
least one research university of world-class status.

• Appropriation: 1.67 billion USD over 5 years
• Merger of NTHU/NCTU: 500 million USD over 5 years
• Recruitment of F. Shu by NTHU – 1 Feb 2002

Possible Funding Sources
