Transcript Understanding your ACT PLAN Results

Three Quick Steps

    The PLAN test is a practice test for the ACT, which you will take as a junior.

The PLAN test will give you an idea about where your scores fall in relation to other sophomore students.

The PLAN test helps you refine your college/career plans The PLAN test helps you understand what kinds of scores you will need for college.

    In English ?

In Math ?

In Reading ?

In Science ?

You can see how your scores compare to those of other students like you who have taken the ACT PLAN test.

  You answered questions about the courses you are taking or plan to take in high school. You also answered questions about career interests and about your plans after high school.

You can see if you need to change your educational plans in order for you to meet your goals.

   Your ACT PLAN score report shows how well your are learning the skills you’ll need to be ready for college.

Use the score report to see what skills you will need to strengthen in order to reach your goals.

Nobody can do school for you. This is your show… your time… your chance.

If you already have them, close everything and follow along with the slides.

Your teacher will read each slide aloud. Please listen to the information.

    The next slides will take you step-by-step through your score report. Please follow along with the slides, looking at each section of your score report.

Your teacher will keep the slide up until everyone has found the section to which the slide is referring.

If you have any questions, write them down and e-mail Mrs. Ison.

Your scores are between 1 (the lowest score you can receive) and 32 (the highest score you can receive). PLAN takes the number of questions you got right on each test and translates it into a number between 1 and 32.

The two scores directly under English and Math only range from 1 to 16. They tell you how well you did in two specific areas of each subject. These scores added together do NOT necessarily equal your English or Math Test scores.

Your Composite score is simply the average of your test scores in English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science (rounded to a whole number).

How Do My Scores Compare with Those of Other Students Who Took PLAN?

Next to your scores, you'll find the scoring at or below your score percent of students . This shows you how your scores compare to those of students across the country who took PLAN.

The example above shows 79% next to the student's English score. This means she scored as high as or higher than 79% of all sophomores who took the PLAN.

The other percents show how you scored relative to other students who took PLAN in your school, your school district, and your state.

Your Plans for High School When you took PLAN, you were asked about the courses you plan to take in high school. This section of your Score Report compares your plans to our recommendations for CORE COLLEGE PREP Courses.

There is a place on page 12 of your PLAN Score Report Booklet for you to plan courses.

YOUR ILP will help you more than pages 12-13.

Am I on Track?

PLAN is designed for 10th graders and the ACT is designed for 11th and 12th graders. Over time, PLAN and the ACT measure your college readiness skills as you progress through high school.

Your PLAN scores can be used to predict how you are likely to do if you take the ACT as an 11th or 12th grader and keep working hard.

Keep in mind that these scores are only estimates, not guarantees. Improving your study habits and taking more challenging courses are likely to improve your ACT scores.

Your Future When you took PLAN, you answered questions about your future educational plans.

This information can help you clarify your goals and plan for your future— including, perhaps, a college education.

Admission Standards Most of the schools in Kentucky have Open or Traditional admissions. That means you must have an ACT composite score of 18-24 for admission.

Private colleges or universities usually have Selective admissions.

Profile for Success This shows the Career Preference you indicated on your PLAN answer sheet. It also shows what kind of ACT score you will need to be successful in the college major for your chosen career.

Students who score at or above the College Readiness Benchmark Scores for PLAN in English, math, reading, and science will probably do well in entry-level college courses if they keep up with their coursework.

College requires A LOT of reading. Your reading benchmark is important.

Thinking about College?

Your PLAN results give you an early clue as to whether you will be ready for college-level work if you keep doing the same things in school.

ACT has also developed College Readiness Benchmark Scores. If you meet these benchmark scores, you are on your way to having the skills you will need by the time you finish high school

   This is the World of Work Map.

It is based on the answers you provided when you were filling out the PLAN answer sheet.

You can spend more time with this later on.

Your Career Possibilities It's not too soon to begin exploring possible careers!

Your PLAN Score Report helps you start by focusing on a few career areas.

     You will use the information here with your actual PLAN test booklet.

+ means that you answered correctly o means that you left the item blank * means that you marked more than one answer…that’s a no-no.

You can see what the correct answers were for the ones you missed, and reread the question in your book. It will help you learn.

How Can I Improve?

The back of your Score Report describes the skills and knowledge you already probably have.

You'll also see some ideas for improving even more in the different subject areas. The suggestions are based on your scores and can help you do better.

You will definitely want to discuss these ideas with your counselors, teachers, and parents so that you can work together to get the most from your courses and be "college ready."
