Introduction CBSC’s responsibilities

– Reviews state building standards – – – – – – Adopts and approves building standards for publication Codifies approved building standards Files approved building standards with the Secretary of State Contracts to publish the California Building Standards Code Develops building standards for state buildings where no other state agency has the authority Acts as the state depository for local government modifications

CBSC’s Adoption Authority and Application

– – Health and Safety Code Section 18934.5

 Where no state agency has the authority to adopt building standards applicable to state buildings, the commission shall adopt, approve, codify, and publish building standards providing the minimum standards for the design and construction of state buildings.

Health and Safety Code Section 18938  The building standards contained in model building codes, as referenced in the California Building Standards Code, shall apply to all occupancies throughout the state.
