This Is Kiwanis
Founded in 1915, Kiwanis International is a thriving
organization of service-minded men, women, and youth
who respond to the unique needs in their communities. As
a collective group, more than 8,000 Kiwanis clubs in
more than 80 countries address worldwide issues
by “Serving the Children of the World.” The
organization’s International Office is in Indianapolis,
Indiana, USA.

Objects of Kiwanis
To give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the
material values of life.
To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human
relationships.
To promote the adoption and the application of higher social,
business, and professional standards.
To develop, by precept and example, a more intelligent,
aggressive, and serviceable citizenship.
To provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form
enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better
communities.
To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion

Worldwide Service Focus
• Young Children: Priority One is a program supported by
Kiwanis International and thousands of clubs worldwide. It
focuses on maternal and child health, child care and
development, parent education and support, and safety
and pediatric trauma.
• The Worldwide Service Project is a Kiwanisfamily initiative in partnership with the United
Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to virtually eliminate
the world’s leading cause of preventable mental
retardation, iodine deficiency disorders (IDD).

Organization Structure
Kiwanis International is the worldwide organization to which
each Kiwanis club and member belongs. It is administered by
the Kiwanis International Board of Trustees.
Our District (Florida) is one of 47 districts
in Kiwanis International.
Our Division (19) is one of 27 divisions in the district.
Our Club (Fort Myers Metro-McGregor) is one of 16
clubs in our division.

Our Club’s Sponsored Programs
BUG (Bringing Up Grades)
A program designed to provide recognition to students who raise their grades
to an acceptable range, and maintain or continue to raise them from one
grading period to the next. Recognition includes being placed on the school's
BUG Honor Roll; a pizza, ice cream, or other food-themed party; and
presentation of certificates, pins, and other giveaways.
K-KIDS
K-Kids is a "student-led" community-service organization for students
in grades 3 through 5 , which operates under school regulations and draws its
members from the student body.
BUILDERS CLUB
Builders Club is the largest service organization for middle school students
(ages 12 to 14), and is student led. Community-based Builders Clubs also may
be established at community facilities such as churches and libraries.
You are encouraged to attend their presentations.

• Active participation is encouraged.
• There is no mandatory minimum
attendance requirement, but members are
encouraged to attend whenever they can

Conventions
The Annual Kiwanis International Convention is an
excellent event, which allows clubs from around the
world to exchange ideas, participate in forums, and
share fellowship.
The District Convention is the kickoff for the new Kiwanis
year, which runs from October to September. Club
officers and interested members attend.
The District Midyear Education Day gives members an
opportunity to attend classes and forums about club
operation and other exciting topics.
