Accessing the data bases
On-campus
access to data bases is IP
authenticated
Off-campus
access
Field: not available
Roper: uses library as proxy server -- works just like
other library data bases
ICPSR: first time, uses library proxy server, after that,
you can access from anywhere but you must
reauthenticate every 6 months

What is Online Analysis?
“Online
data analysis" refers to the ability
to perform statistical analysis using special
Web-based software as an alternative to
downloading data into a statistical
package on your computer.

Data sets used in SDA Analysis
From the SDA main page, click on Archive Tab
to see a list of datasets available through
Website, for example:
General Social Survey (GSS) Cumulative Datafile
(1972-2010)
American National Election Survey (ANES)
Cumulative Datafile (1948-2004).
U.S. Census microdata (PUMS)

Using SDA: Crosstabs
Does intensity of religious affiliation determine
views of pornography laws?
In the Search box above the list of variables,
enter RELITEN, then click Go
On the next screen, click on the link for
RELITEN; this will place it in the Selected box on
the main crosstabs page
Once RELITEN is in the Selected box, click on
