KES and KMS are federally funded
school-wide Title I schools. Title I is
a part of the No Child Left Behind
Law. Title I requires that schools
create a positive and supportive
learning environment that results in
high levels of achievement for all
students.
Family Engagement Plan and Parental
Involvement Requirements
Memphis City Schools Policy 4.502
KES and KMS Family Engagement Plans are developed jointly
each year with all stakeholders.
Purpose: To partner with families in an effort to provide
Kingsbury students with a home/school/community
environment that helps children achieve academic excellence.
All students registered at KES and KMS received a Family
Engagement Plan at registration or the first week of school.
Additional copies of the Family Engagement Plan can be found
in the KES Handbook p. 28-29 as well as on each school’s
webpage.

Plan will be submitted in September 2010.
Results from State Department of Education are
expected sometime before December 2010.

All parents have the right to request
the following:
A teacher’s professional qualifications
Type of degree or teaching
experience
A paraprofessional’s qualifications
Parents Rights
Receive information on child’s achievement level
Right to transfer to another school if a victim of a
violent crime
Right to public school choice and supplemental
services if child’s school is identified for school
improvement
Right to be informed if child is being taught by a
teacher who is not highly qualified 20 days or more
Parents right to know is attached in handout as well
as found on schools’ websites and in schools’
handbooks.

Jointly developed with parents to promote
positive and productive working relationships

All students registered at KES and KMS
received a school compact at registration or
the first week of school.

Student Code of Conduct
MCS Chart informing parents & students of
expectations for a safe and orderly school
environment, without disruptions to the learning
process
The range of possible disciplinary options when a
student engages in a particular behavior or action
All students registered at KES and KMS received a
Code of Conduct packet at registration
All students take a required test covering the topics
addressed on the Code of Conduct. Students must
score a minimum of 80% or are asked to test again
