The Poles of Innovation
On April 2009, in the framework of EU ERDF Regional Plan,
Regione Piemonte has created 12 “Poli di Innovazione” with
the mission to support the implementations of regional policies
on innovation and technological development
The Poles of Innovation are clusters of enterprises and R&D
centers focussed on specific technological domains
POLIGHT - Pole of Innovation Green Building and
Hydrogen Technologies (www.polight.piemonte.it) is the
cluster coordinated by Environment Park and constituted by
innovative players in the technological domains of green building
and hydrogen
The origin of the Poles of Innovation
The Poles of Innovation
are based on the french
experience of the pôles
de compétitivité created
in 2005.
The pôles de compétitivité
are 71 clusters on different
technological
domains
spread all over the french
territory

The Innovation Pole Renewable Energies and Biofuels has been recognized by
Regione Piemonte on 31rd March 2009 as one of the 12 Regional Innovation Poles
INNOVATION POLE REGIONAL STRATEGY1:
12 INNOVATION HUBS TO INCREASE THE REGIONAL COMPETITIVENESS
GENERAL DEFINITION
According to EU legislation, the Innovation Poles are clusters of independent undertakings - innovative
start-ups, small, medium and large enterprises as well as research organizations - operating in a
particular scientific and technological sector and designed to stimulate innovative activity by promoting
intensive interactions, sharing of facilities and exchange of knowledge and expertise.
Each innovation cluster must be operated by a managing authority in charge of managing the cluster’s activity.
