Use LSCB Policies and Procedure’s to assist you in the
referral process.
Confirm the referral in writing via a multi-agency
assessment and referral form (CAF form) within 48
hours.
Recent Sexual Abuse/or Child in Immediate
Danger Refer to Police
Forensic evidence may be available. Refer to
the police to expedite collection of evidence
or to ensure immediate protection

N.B. A referral must also be made to Social
Services
Obtain consent of the parent/child for the
referral and record, unless gaining consent
puts the child at further risk of significant
harm.
e.g. when the professional has concerns
relating to sexual abuse or Fabricated
illness.
Listen to and record all information
Document fully your concerns,
observations, discussions, decisions made
and by whom the referral was taken.
Do not question the child or try to obtain
further disclosure.
Do not promise confidentiality but advise
you must share information to ensure the
child is protected.
