Feedback
Community Service PTs:
• Many provinces did not have a specific welcome
• Lack of supervision for community service and junior
therapists
• Community service is well on its way, some provinces
completed their selection, awaiting the outcome of final
rounds. The WC held its Allied Health stakeholder meeting
for community service placements on 31 July 2013. All 23
placements in WC were filled following the first round.

Physiotherapy Assistants/PTT
• There have been several requests from various
provinces regarding the up skilling of PTA’s to PTT’s.
• The course is initially only open to KZN PTA’s as the
funding is from the KwaZulu Natal DOH, once all
KZN PTA’s are trained the program will be open to
other provinces, provided that the course will still
receive funding.
• The candidates that failed the course last year will
be allowed to re-do their exams in 2014.
• no specific training and no refresher courses
Human Resources
• Not enough senior staff members
• Shortage of posts. Poorly run HR departments and HRD
departments.
• Some provinces are really struggling to get clarity on the
number of post of PT’s in the provinces, including funded
and non-funded posts. Western Cape is embarking on
completing a situational analysis for Allied Health. This will
allow for accurate numbers regarding the number of PT’s
at the various level including the rural and urban divide.
This will go a long way in trying to motivate for posts
where it is needed most.
