Overall
Data, Data, Data…
• The strength of our attainment data gave us confidence
• We were also able to show how we were using data to inform operational and
strategic issues:
- Impact Analysis (Basic Skills, Diversity, etc...)
- Benchmarking
- Target setting
- Pace of Attainment
• We were able to demonstrate staff having ownership of and using appropriate
WBL data
Preparation…
• Collected as much information as possible from recent inspections
- Spoke to people across Wales
- Used information brought back to College by Estyn Peer Assessors
- Detailed analysis of every WBL inspection report issued since 2006
• This ‘told’ us to focus in on learning areas (The Key!)
• Estyn reports also told us what was being considered as outstanding in each
learning area across Wales
• Used this information to inform and focus learning areas

Preparation Generic Questions
• If learning areas are grade 1
- “Estyn has to prove that the learning areas achieved grade 1 despite the generic areas”
(Reporting Inspector)
• Equal access to College facilities
• Moodle (VLE)
• Integration and delivery of Cross Cutting Themes
- Sustainable Development
- Global Citizenship
- Welsh Culture
- Healthy Lifestyles

• On Tuesday night the following areas were identified as areas that required more
evidence:
- Evidence of Diversity and Equal opportunities learning materials
- Impact and use of Moodle
- Cross cutting themes, consistency of delivery
- Bilingualism/Welsh Culture
- Use of temporary registers in some classes
• By Wednesday evening all issues resolved
Recommendations…

•
A more consistent use of non stereotypical images in WBL literature
Further enhance the promotion of bi-lingualism
Share good practice across areas of mid term target setting
Continue to monitor staff profile
