SJ-1, Guan-Chong

Location: On the ulnal side of the distal segment of the 4th finger, 0.1 cun from the corner of the nail.

• • Jin-Well point Metal point

Indications: Headache, deafness, ear ringing, sore throat, stiffness of the tongue, fever, irritability.

Method: Puncture superficially 0.1 cun, or prick with a three-edged needle to cause bleeding. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The arterial and venous network formed by the palmar digital proprial artery and vein.

Innervation: The palmar digital proprial nerve derived from the ulnar nerve.

SJ-2, Ye-Men

• • • Location: On the dorsum of the hand, between the 4th and 5th fingers , at the junction of the red and white skin, proximal to the margin of the web.

Ying-Spring point Water point

Indications: Headache, conjunctival congerstion, sore-throat, sudden deafness, malaria, brachialgia.

Method: Puncture obliquely 0.3-0.5 cun towards the interspace of the metacarpal bones. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The dorsal digital artery of the ulnar artery.

Innervation: The dorsal branch of the ulnar nerve.

SJ-3, Zhong-Zhu

Location: On the dorsm of the to the 4th metacarpophalangeal joint ,in the depression between the 4th and 5th metacarpal bones.

• • Shu-Stream point Wood point

Indications: Headache, conjunctival congestion, sore-throat, deafness, tinnitus, fever, brachialgia, stiffness of the fingers.

Method: Puncture perpendicularly 0.3-0.5 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The dorsal venous network of hand and the fourth dorsal metacarpal artery.

Innervation: The dorsal branch of the ulnar nerve.

SJ-4, yang-Chi

Location: At the midpoint of the dorsal crease of the wrist ,in the depression on the ulnal side of the tendon of the extensor muscle of the fingers.

Yuan-Source point

Indications: Pain in the shoulder and arm, pain in the wrist, malaria, deafness, diabetes.

Method: Puncture perpendicularly 0.3-0.5 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The dorsal venous network of the wrist and the posterior carpal artery.

Innervation: The terminal branch of the posterior antebrachial cutaneous nerve and the dorsal branch of the ulnar nerve.

SJ-5, Wai-Guan

• • • Location: On the dorsal side of the forearm and on the line connection Yangchi (SJ4) and the tip of the olecranon, 2 cun proximal to the dorsal crease of the wrist, between the radius and ulna.

Luo-Connecting point Master point of Yang-Wei (Linking) Vessel

Indications: Fever, headache, pain in the cheek, stiff neck, deafness, tinnitus, pain in the hypochondriac region, dyscinesia of the elbow, pain in the fingers, tremor of the hand.

Method: Puncture perpendicularly 0.5-1.0 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: Deeper, the posterior and anterior antebrachial interosseous atteries and veins.

Innervation: The posterior antebrachinal cutaneous nerve; deeper, the posterior interosseous nerve and the anterior interosseous nerve.

SJ-6, Zhi-Gou

• • • Location: On the dorsal side of the forearm and on the line connecting Yangchi (SJ4) and the tip of the olecranon, 3 cun proximal to the dorsal crease of the wrist, between the radius and ulna.

Jing-Spring point Fire point

Indications: Deafness, tinnitus, pain in the hypochondriac region, vomiting, constipation, fever, soreness and heaviness sensation in the shoulder and back, sudden loss of voice.

Method: Puncture perpendicularly 0.8-1.2 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: Deeper, the posterior and anterior antebrachial interosseous atteries and veins.

Innervation: The posterior antebrachinal cutaneous nerve; deeper, the posterior interosseous nerve and the anterior interosseous nerve.

SJ-7, Hui-Zong

Location : On the dorsal side of the forearm, 3 cun proximal to the dorsal crease of the wrist, on the ulnar side of Zhigou (SJ6) and on the radial border of the ulna.

Xi-Cleft point

Indications: Deafness, otalgia, epilepsy, brachialgia.

Method: Puncture perpendicularly 0.5-1.0 icun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The posterior antebrachial interosseous artery and vein.

Innervation: The posterior and medial antebrachial cutaneous nerves; deeper,the posterior and anterior interosseous nerves.

SJ-8, San-Yang-Luo

Location: On the dorsal side of the forearm, 4 cun proximal to the dorsal crease of the wrist, between the radius and the ulna.

Indications: Deafness, sudden loss of voice, pain in the chest and hypochondriac region, brachialgia, toothache.

Method: Puncture perpendicularly 0.5-1.0 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy Vasculature: The posterior antebrachial interosseous artery and vein.

Innervation: The posterior and medial antebrachial cutaneous nerves; deeper, the posterior and anterior interosseous nerves.

SJ-9, Si-Du

Location: On the dorsal side of the forearm and on the line connecting Yangchi (SJ4) and the tip of the olecranon, 5 cun distal to the tip of the olecranon, between the radius and ulna.

Indications: Deafness, toothache, migraine, sudden loss of voice, pain in the forearm.

Method: Puncture perpendicularly 0.5-1.0 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy Vasculature: The posterior antebrachial interosseous artery and vein.

Innervation: The posterior and medial antebrachial cutaneous nerves; deeper, the posterior and anterior interosseous nerves.

SJ-10, Tian-Jin

Location: On the lateral side of the upper arm, in the depression 1 cun proximal to the tip of the olecranon when the elbow is flexed.

• • He-Sea point Earth point

Indications: Migraine, pain in the neck, nape, shoulders and arms, epilepsy, scrofula, goiter due to Qi disorder Method: Puncture perpendicularly 0.3-0.5 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The arterial and venous network of the elbow.

Innervation: The posterior brachial cutaneous nerve and the muscular branch of the radial nerve.

SJ-11, Qing-Leng-Yuan

Location: With the elbow flexed, on the lateral side of the upper arm, 2 cun above the tip of the olecranon and 1 cun above Tianjing (SJ10).

Indications: Inability to raise arm due to pain in the shoulder and arm, migraine.

Method: Puncture perpendicularly 0.3-0.5 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The terminal branches of the median collateral artery and vein.

Innervation: The posterior brachial cutaneous nerve and the muscular branch of the radial nerve.

SJ-12, Xiao-Luo

Location: On the lateral side of the upper arm, at the midpoint of the line connecting Qinglengyuan(SJ11) and Naohu i(SJ13).

Indications: Headache, stiffness of the neck and nape, inability to raise arm due to brachialgia.

Method: Puncture perpendicularly 0.5-0.7 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The median collateral artery and vein.

Innervation: The posterior brachial cutaneous nerve and the muscular branch of the radial nerve.

SJ-13, Nao-Hui

Location: On the lateral side of the upper arm and on the line connecting the tip of the olecranon and Jian liao (SJ14), 3 cun below Jian liao(SJ14) , and on the posteroinferior border of the deltoid muscle.

Indications: Goiter due to Qi disorders, aching pain in the shoulder and arm.

Method: Puncture perpendicularly 0.5-0.8 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The median collateral artery and vein.

Innervation: The posterior brachial cutaneous nerve, the muscular branch of the radial nerve; deeper, the radial nerve.

SJ-14, Jian-Liao

Location: On the shoulder, posterior to Jian yu( LI15 ), in the depression inferior and posterior to the acromion when the arm is abducted.

Indications: Inability to raise arm due to pain in the shoulder and arm, flaccidity of the upper limb.

Method: Puncture perpendicularly 0.7-1.0 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The muscular branch of the posterior circumflex humeral artery.

Innervation: The muscular branch of the axillary nerve.

SJ-15, Tian-Liao

Location: On the scapula, at the midpoint between Jian jing( GB2 1) and Quyuan ( SI13 ), at the superior angle of the scapula.

Indications: Pain in the shoulder and elbow, stiffness of the neck and nape.

Method: Puncture perpendicularly 0.3-0.5 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The descending branch of the transverse cervical artery; deeper, the muscular branch of the suprascapular artery.

Innervation: The accessory nerve and the branch of the suprascapular nerve.

SJ-16, Tian-You

Location: On the lateral side of the neck, directly below the posterior border of the mastoid process, on the level of the mandibular angle, and on theposterior border of the sternocleidomastoid muscle.

Indications: Headache, stiffness of the nape, edema of face, blurred vision, sudden deafness.

Method: Puncture perpendicularly 0.3-0.5 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy Vasculature: The posterior auricular artery.

Innervation: The lesser occipital nerve.

SJ-17, Yi-Feng

Location: Posterior to the ear lobe. in the depression between the mastoid process and mandibular angle.

Indications: Tinnitus, deafness, otitis media suppurariva, facial hemiparalysis, toothache, swelling of the cheek. scrofula, dyscinesia of maxillary joint.

Method: Puncture perpendicularly 0.5-1.0 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The posterior auricular artery and vein, the external jugular vein.

Innervation: The great auricular nerve; deeper, the site where the facial nerve perforates out of the stylomastoid foramen.

SJ-18, Chi-Mai

Location: On the head. at the centre of the mastoid process, and at the junction of the middle third and lower third of the line connecting Jiaosun (SJ20) and Yifeng (SJ17) along the curve of the ear helix.

Indications: Headache, tinnitus, deafness, infantile convulsion and epilepsy.

Method: Puncture subcutaneously 0.3-0.5 cun or prick with a three-edged needle to cause bleeding. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy Vasculature: The posterior auricular artery and vein.

Innervation: The posterior auricular branch of the great auricular nerve.

SJ-19, Lu-Xi

Location: On the head. at the junction of the upper third and middle third of the line connecting Jiaosun (SJ20) and Yifeng (SJ17) along the curve of the ear helix.

Indications: Headache. tinnitus, otalgia, deafness, infantile convulsion and epilepsy.

Method: Puncture obliquely 0.3-0.5 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The posterior auricular artery and vein.

Innervation: The anastomotic branch of the great auricular nerve and the lesser occipital nerve.

SJ-20, Jiao-Sun

Location: On the head. above the ear apex within the hairline.

Indications: Tinnitus, conjunctivtis, gingival swelling pain, toothache, mumps.

Method: Puncture subcutaneously 0.3-0.5 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The branches of the superficial temporal artery and vein.

Innervation: The branches of the auriculotemporal nerve.

SJ-21, Er-Men

Location: On the face, anterior to the supratragic notch, in the depression behind the posterior border of the condyloid process of the mandible.

Indications: Tinnitus, deafness, otitls media suppurativa, toothache.

Method; Puncture perpendicularly 0.3-0.5 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The superficial temporal artery and vein.

Innervation: The branches of the auriculotemporal nerve and facial nerve.

SJ-22, He-Liao

Location: On the lateral side of the head. on the posterior margin of the temples, anterior to the anterior border of the root of the ear auricle and posterior to the superficial temporal artery.

Indications: Migraine. tinnitus, lockjaw.

Method: Avoid puncturing the artery, puncture obliquely 0.1-0.3 cun. Moxibustion is applicable.

Regional anatomy

Vasculature: The superficial temporal artery and vein.

Innervation: The branch of the auriculotemporal nerve, on the course of the temporal branch of the facial nerve.

SJ-23, SI-Zhu-Kong

Location: In the depression on the supraorbtical margin, at the lateral end of the eyebrow.

Needling: transverse 0.5-1.0 cun

• • Indications: Headaches, eye swelling, eye redness, toothache, dizziness, visual dizziness, tetany, epilepsy, blurred vision Methods: Sit or pronate, exterior margin of the angular process of frontal bone, in the depression at the lateral side of the eyebrow, then select the point.
