5.
Old Desident did not have virucide effectiveness.
New Desident Cavicide has a completely new
chemical composition so the product is also effective
against viruses. There is no similarity between the old
and the new one in chemical composition.
Old Desident had a very high content of alcohol in the
formula – over 80%. New Desident Cavicide has
alcohol content of 17.5%.
For more information on Desident CaviCide please see
remaining slides of the presentation.
Desident Cavicide is recommended for use on nonporouse surfaces only.

Virucidal
Fungicidal
Tuberculocidal
• Disinfectant, decontaminant and cleaner all in one
• Compatible with most medical devices material
• For use on nonporous surfaces, even in neonatal
and infant care areas

• Low alcohol content – 17.5%
Desident® CaviCide
Is a Low alcohol solution
High % Alcohol Solutions are considered if alcohol
content is over 22%
(like old Desident with alcohol content over 80%)
Disadvantages of high alcohol solutions:
• Damage surfaces, equipment
• Desiccate: adhere (fix) bioburden to surfaces
• Evaporate rapidly: reduced contact time
• Are ineffective pre-cleaners – must use other
product to clean first
• Should be disinfectants (only step 2)
